James Miles & Lewis Parkin

James and Lewis are two recent graduates of Newcastle University’s MSc program in Sport and Exercise Psychology. Since completing their degrees, they have pursued Professional Doctorates (PhD) at the University of Portsmouth and Glasgow Caledonian University. Their professional backgrounds encompass work within elite performance sport academies and university sports environments, including roles with the University of Glasgow and South Gloucestershire Sports Academy (SGS). In addition to their individual roles, James and Lewis co-founded CalmFocusPerform (CFP), a sport psychology consultancy. Through CFP, they provide a range of services, including one-on-one coaching, group workshops, and psychoeducation sessions, supporting athletes, teams, and organisations across a diverse range of settings. From its inception, CFP has emphasised the importance of taking a systems-led approach to their services. This involves collaborating closely with team coaches, helping them develop skills to become high-performing and psychologically informed leaders. Drawing on their experiences in high-performance sport and insights from their doctoral research, James and Lewis offer an informative presentation on identifying the key attributes and techniques that define an effective high-performance coach.
