  • Talk Title: Creating environments for thriving in Olympic sport organisations: Implications for the coach-athlete relationship
Michael is a lecturer in Sport and Exercise Psychology at the University of Sussex, as well as a Sport and Exercise Psychologist in Training through the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences.

His research interests are influenced by my past experiences of competing in professional sport and a desire to understand the interplay of performance and well-being within these environments.

His research to date focuses on the psychosocial factors that influence thriving within elite sport organisations with an emphasis on generating novel, practicable and effective knowledge from experts in the field. He draws on diverse qualitative methodologies that prioritise participant expertise to collaboratively create knowledge and further our understanding of the challenges faced by those who are operating at the complex organisational, cultural and systems level in elite sport. Through his research, he aims to provide a unique perspective on the evolving role of a sport psychologist, as practitioners are increasingly being asked to work collaboratively alongside senior leadership and within multidisciplinary teams to construct psychologically informed systems within their sporting organisations.
