ACPI and Alexander Design

ACPI and Alexander Design have worked together for over 20 years providing innovative solutions to both industry and the scientific community.
In 2003 ACPI in conjunction with Alexander Design produced an innovative form of high strength floor standing insulator for the High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) power electronic valve market. The concept design was thoroughly examined using both finite element as well as experimental techniques. ACPI established the necessary project plans and supply chains to ensure that the full contract quantity for an HVDC scheme in Northern India was satisfied. U.K. type testing, both mechanical as well as electrical, for the 250kV BIL insulators was carried out as well as routine testing for each of the insulators. Production of the insulators including precision machining of the components and specialised moulding, were carried out in the U.K. utilising materials sourced from around the globe. ACPI carried out further work for the HVDC industry researching the design of high voltage damping resistors and in the fire testing of HVDC structures .
Alexander Design together with ACPI support has dedicated significant efforts to develop FASTT a novel form of heat transfer utilising the motion of thin precision solid foils to transfer heat. Fluid heat transfer remains the largest of the thermal management tools, but is severely challenged in some applications. FASTT is able to extend the working envelope of heat exchangers by using solids rather than fluids. The inherent lack of flexibility of the solid state limits the operational geometries available to FASTT, but the very wide operating temperature range, linear response to temperature difference, high thermal flux capability and its use of non-hazardous and non-toxic materials, offers considerable scope for future thermal management applications. ACPI won the British Engineering Excellence Award for Materials Innovation in 2020. Alexander Design Continues with the development of FASTT, and is the holder of European Patent EP3124908.
