Meet the Team

Dr Adam Coussens

Adam is a Senior Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Psychology and the Degree Programme Director for Sport and Exercise Science at Newcastle University. His primary research interests focus on social support and performance, as well as psychological well-being. He is currently the Principal Investigator on a North Futures Hub–funded project titled Understanding and Supporting Mental Health in Youth Sports. His other research interests focus around social processes, coach-athlete relationship, humour in sport, and goal setting.  

Adam teaches across both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, with a focus on applied sport psychology, advanced research methods, and the psychology of performance and participation. He has presented his work at international sport and exercise psychology conferences and has published research in leading international journals.
