Accommodation & Travel

Accommodation

A local business, the Gateshead initiative, has negotiated conference rates for us at three city centre hotels. Please visit the reservation website to make a booking.

More affordable accommodation

1. The university has a limited amount of self-catering staff and guest accommodation for around £55 per night at Carlton Lodge. You can book at www.ncl.ac.uk/accommodation/staff/carlton-lodge/.

2. There are several low-cost bed and breakfast places/small hotels near to the university campus, especially in the Osborne Road area of Jesmond which is 10-20 minutes easy walk from the venue.

Around Jesmond, we recommend the Holiday Inn Jesmond; The Osborne Hotel; the Jesmond Park Hotel; the Jesmond Hotel. In the city centre we recommend the Premier Inn Newcastle Central. The following booking sites may also be useful: www.iknow-northeast.co.uk/north-east-england/; www.newcastlegateshead.com/accommodation. Look for places located in 'Jesmond' and on 'Osborne Road'.

**Please note that the university advises against the use of AirBnB, other types of couch-surfing and the use of third-party booking sites (booking.com/expedia)

Travel

You can reach Newcastle by train or flight. The city has very good public transport links primarily through the metro.

Metro trains run every 10-15 minutes during working hours. The stop closest to the university is Haymarket. There are also taxi stands at both the airport and train station. If you are staying in Jesmond, the university is a short walk away.

Conference Venue

The conference will take place in the Devonshire Building on the main university campus. You will see the conference registration desk when entering the building, in the foyer. Rooms G21 and G22 are directly adjacent.

Maps of the campus, city centre and travel to Newcastle University can be found on the university's Maps and Directions pages.
