The beach-horizon is a limit we can never experience or reach physically, unlike the tame fragmented horizons in the urban space. We can then only ever contrive to position ourselves at this never-place. Digitally constructing a horizon brings the beyond into reach, but in so doing foreshortens our vision, pointing out the dilemma of here and there in space. Introducing a flat horizon turns an unlimited mental scene into a flat archival object amenable to storage. The blur and colours adopt the formal rather than temporal basis of memory, not as contingency but as objectified yet indeterminate experience. The taming of the unattainable ameliorates the angst-inducing vastness of horizon at the cost of perspective.
