Andrew King is a Wellcome Trust Principal Research Fellow and Professor of Neurophysiology, in the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics, at the University of Oxford. Over the course of his career, he has studied many aspects of the auditory brain: how its development is shaped by sensory experience and how it codes auditory information and adjusts to changes in the listener’s acoustic world, including those resulting from hearing loss. 

Professor Emeritus E.F. (Ted) Evans was, until his retirement in 2001, Professor of Auditory Physiology in the Department of Communication and Neuroscience at Keele University, Staffordshire.  He was a leading figure in auditory neuroscience, and Chair of the British Society of Audiology from 1998-2000.  Ted championed experimental science as an essential underpinning of audiology, and he founded the annual British Society of Audiology Short Papers Meeting on Experimental Studies of Hearing and Deafness which ran until the beginning of this decade.  The Ted Evans Lecture was founded in his honour and was delivered annually at the Short Papers Meeting.  Now that the Short Papers Meeting has been succeeded by BAS, we are delighted that the BSA Council has kindly agreed to the Lecture being part of this year’s event.
