12:00 - iLab Seminar

iLab Seminar:  (led by Dr Anne Preston, Sandra Morales Rios, Phil Heslop) @ 12pm in the Alnwick Room

As learning technologies offer increasingly ubiquitous opportunities, the role of technology in 21st century education has become increasingly debated: Should technology offer a solution for education or a tool to assist existing 21st century educational practice? To what extent should schools, universities, teachers and students invest time and energy on training on educational technologies despite being sceptical about their pedagogical grounding and struggling to harness technologies in a pedagogically informed manner? This seminar provides a forum for attendees to discuss some of these issues and challenges as well as hear about case-studies which address these issues. It is led by experienced researchers from iLab:Learn (http://di.ncl.ac.uk/ilablearn/), a practice-based laboratory at Newcastle University which undertakes world-class interdisciplinary research combing expertise in pedagogy theory, methods and practice to develop the next generation of digital technology for learning for ‘real-world’ applications.
