About the symposium

On September 25th 2015 we are holding a one-day symposium: Negotiating Recent Reform in Higher Education: the Question of Student Engagement.
The symposium is hosted by Dr Anselma Gallinat, Dr Lisa Garforth and Dr Adél Pásztor in Sociology at Newcastle University and supported by the School of Geography, Politics and Sociology and the Newcastle Institute for Social Renewal.
The symposium will explore the intensification of organisational reform in English universities in the post-Brown review era through the lens of ideas about student engagement. It features a keynote speech from Professor Susan Wright (Aarhus), an anthropologist and internationally-recognised expert on audit cultures and the neo-liberal university.
The symposium will feature roundtable discussions with academic managers and administrators and with undergraduate and postgraduate students and teachers as well as academic panels.
