Travel

The Copthorn Hotel is easily reached by public transport, on foot or by car.

The hotel is on the river quayside, basically from the station staright down to the river. Walking you can go left or right leaving the train station and find your way down to the river.

The shortest way is steep and involves steep steps down, not to be attempted in the dark. Right of the station, right into Westgate road, take a right under the rail bridge, left around the castle keep and then down the steps to the quayside.

An easier walk down is going right and take the long way round. It is a10 - 15 minutes walk.

Right from the station exit, continue straight on, right into A186, at St Nicholas Cathedral go left on the narrow road round the back of the cathedral, it is fairly steep road down, go right at roundabout and right at the quayside.

Public transport

The following websites are very helpful to find out your best public transport, including maps, transportdirect or travelinenortheast or nexus.

The Quayside bus line 1 (yellow busses) stops at Central Station and the Quayside, about 3 minutes away from the hotel.

Taxi: There will be plenty of taxis at the airport or Newcastle railway station.

By air: Newcastle International airport has excellent and economical international connections, in particular with Belfast (Flybe, Easyjet), Paris (Air France) and Amsterdam (KLM and Easyjet). Arriving at Newcastle airport take the Metro at the airport to Central station and either walk down to the hotwel, take a taxi or the Quayside bus.

By car: take the A1 and use your satnav: NE1 3RT. Free parking in the hotel car park.  From A1 - A6085 exit direction of A695 to City Centre, Blaydon/ Newburn. At roundabout take second exit into Scotswood Road A189, at roundabout take third left into Plummer Str A695. Take left into Railway Str/A695, continue along Forth Banks B1600, and you reach your destination on your right.

By sea: DFDS Seaways has a daily connection between IJmuiden (near Amsterdam) and North Shields (Newcastle). It is an overnight ferry and in particular the 5-day deal is worth checking out (ensure you go through ‘offers’ page) and would fit in very well with the schedule of the meeting. Both ports are well connected by public transport. You can also take your car on the ferry if so wished.
