Call for Papers

We welcome papers from those working in a range of disciplinary backgrounds and from those at various stages in their careers including PhD students and those from more established academics and researchers. We also welcome papers and work from those working outside of academia, such as in the arts, media, tourism industries and not for profit sectors. The conference will encompass oral presentations, poster presentations, media, film and photography and will have a range papers focusing on (but not exclusive to):

  • Cultural identity
  • Expatriate communities
  • Literature, art, music
  • Past, present and futures
  • Economy
  • History
  • Relationships with Spain
  • Identities
  • The relationships between the Balearics islands
  • Photography
  • The European Union
  • Tourism
  • Urban, coastal landscapes and communities
  • Political identities of the Balearic islands

Deadlines: We ask that abstracts and ideas of no more than 500 words are emailed to both Mark M.E.Casey@ncl.ac.uk and Hazel H.J.Andrews@ljmu.ac.uk by Monday January 12th 2015. Should you wish to discuss your ideas, please feel free to contact Mark or Hazel. Mark and Hazel, along with their colleagueMacià Blázquez from Universitat de les Illes Balears will review abstracts submitted. Contributors will be notified via email by Wednesday January 21st if their paper and/or ideas have been accepted. We ask that you do not book your travel or accommodation until we can confirm if your paper has been accepted.
