Haitian Studies has undergone a dramatic growth in the Anglophone world over the past thirty years. Much of this work has been done by North American scholars. Considering Haiti’s long and complicated relationships with European countries including France, Great Britain, and Germany, this symposium aims to bring new perspectives to the field by drawing together European-based scholars and practitioners. We welcome participants from various backgrounds, including museum professionals and volunteers, academics, curators and teachers in higher education, as well as artists and other practitioners. The two-day event includes a public symposium followed by a workshop to discuss the potential for funding a European network and support scholarship on Haiti (Thursday 4 April-Friday 5 April).

Les études haïtiennes ont connu une expansion considérable dans le monde Anglophone ces trente dernières années. Ces travaux ont été notamment conduits par des chercheur.e.s d’Amérique du Nord. Inspiré par les relations historiques entre Haïti et les pays européens comme la France, l’Angleterre, et l’Allemagne, cet atelier explore ces nouvelles perspectives en invitant chercheur.e.s et spécialistes basé.e.s en Europe. Nos participant.e.s viennent de toutes disciplines: musées, volontariat, enseignement secondaire, artistes et autres spécialité. L’atelier couvre deux jours avec une conférence ouverte au public (jeudi 4 avril) et un atelier (vendredi 5 avril) pour discuter des possibilités de créer un réseau européen et supporter la recherche sur Haïti en Europe.
