Metro
The Tyne and Wear Metro system is the second largest light rail system in Britain, second only to London’s Underground. It connects key locations around the region and has 60 stations across the North East.
Newcastle Central Station contains its own Metro station, located directly underneath the rail terminus, making it ideal for links to national rail. Metro services link central Newcastle/Gateshead with Newcastle International Airport in only 27 minutes, and the stunning North Sea coast can be reached in half an hour.
The local metro system directly connects the city centre (in grey) to the airport (top left) in about 22 minutes for a £4.30 fare. NCL airport also offers car rental services. The central railways station as well as the USB building (St James) are also connected by the Metro system.
