Dr Jon Copley

Jon Copley is an Associate Professor of Ocean Exploration & Public Engagement at the University of Southampton, and co-founder of SciConnect Ltd, a company that trains scientists in how to engage wider audiences with their work.  Jon's research investigates the ecology of deep-sea environments, which routinely receives widespread news media coverage, and he was a scientific advisor and onscreen contributor for the BBC's recent Blue Planet II series. He was also Lead Educator of a Massive Open Online Course in "Exploring Our Oceans" taken by more than 10,000 people since 2014, and he was previously a Reporter and Assistant News Editor at New Scientist magazine.  His awards as a science communicator include the British Science Association Charles Lyell Lecture Award and the Royal Society of Biology Science Communication Award for Established Researchers.
