  • Rudd Chair and Professor of Neurology at the University of Louisville

Dr Robert Friedland is the Rudd Chair and Professor of Neurology at the University of Louisville.  He is our part of our Senior Faculty of the Symposium.  Dr Friedland is a clinical and research neurologist who has wide experience in neuroepidemiology.  He has studied AD prevalence, risk and protective factors, with work on the Kikuyu in Kenya, Jews and Arabs in Israel, Caucasian and African-American subjects in Ohio and Mexican and European American subjects in Texas.  He has documented a series of important determinants of the disease, including genes, physical and mental inactivity, smoking, obesity, and diet. These studies led to a National Health Literacy Program to enhance public awareness of dementia and how lifestyle modifications influence risk.
