ACP/UKSMO National Conference

The first national meeting of The Association of Cancer Physicians is to be held in Newcastle upon Tyne with a theme of The Future Oncology Workplace and Workforce and will focus on issues relating to capacity and capability.

Friday 12 - Sunday 14 September 2025

There is increasing recognition that all cancer centres are under considerable pressure, due to resource limitations, increasing patient demand, increasing complexity of treatment delivery, treatment toxicity and the service delivery has impacted on capability and capacity to undertake or participate in research. Furthermore, staff are under stress with increasing incidence of burnout, work pressure and the whole system feels stretched.

This conference is to reflect on issues in the workplace and consider strategies to share good practice and innovation that can increase capacity and capability within the workplace and workforce, to highlight strategies for the physical and mental wellbeing of the oncology workforce and skill the participants on how they can plan their careers to maximise their impact on the service provision for the benefit of themselves and their patients.

Target Audience

The UKSMO Conference 2025 is aimed at all staff working in Oncology departments, medical oncologists, clinical oncologists, clinical nurse specialists, cancer pharmacists and other members of the multidisciplinary team. Resident doctors with interest in specialising in Oncology and undergraduate students are welcome.

Programme Themes

The conference will be structured to facilitate networking, collaboration and partnership. Our aim is to develop a shared understanding of the current challenges of service provision within the UK and the factors that are hindering participation in research activities, drug and treatment delivery and recruitment into clinical trials.

Held over 3 days, it will encompass keynote lectures, presentations, posters, exhibition and networking social events. More detailed programme is here.
