Dr Al Fisher is an associate at BuroHappold Engineering and leads Structural Design Computation within the firm's Lightweight Structures and Stadia team. A structural engineer with a background in computational design, he has particular interest in the geometry of freeform architecture, where engineering efficiency and form are so inextricably linked. His research is focused on novel approaches to structural design computation, enabling full integration of the design and analysis of shell, membrane and other lightweight and freeform structures. His keynote lecture will focus on recent projects, in particular his team's applied research and design of wide span cable net roofs, including the London Olympic Stadium and its recent transformation.
