Welcome to the ENSUS2011 Website

The fourth International Conference on Marine Research for Environmental Sustainability, ENSUS2011, will be held on the 12-14 of September 2011, at Newcastle University, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom. The Conference is being organised by Newcastle University and Lloyd's Register.

The objective of this conference is to gather operators, designers, constructors, marine scientists, regulatory authorities, and researchers, to discuss and disseminate technological advances that will realise environmental impact reduction from marine activities. In parallel with ENSUS2011, we will also hold a public engagement workshop on marine sustainability. For more information on the workshop, please click here.

The topics for the ENSUS2011 conference are:

  • Marine food security (e.g. aquaculture, fisheries, new technologies, new sources)
  • Technologies to mitigate marine invasive species (e.g. ballast water, antifouling, aquaculture)
  • Sustainable energy (e.g. biofuels, offshore renewables, carbon capture and storage, fuel cells)
  • Pollution mitigation and control (e.g. ship emissions, marine litter, noise pollution, oil pollution, decommissioning, eutrophication and sewage)
  • Coastal and ocean monitoring (e.g. technologies, marine monitoring surveys, long term data sets)
  • Governance (e.g. policy development and implementation, socio-economic drivers, stakeholders participation, legislation and enforcement)
  • Ocean acidification
  • Coastal erosion (e.g. ship wash, coastal defences and habitat modification, exploitation of resources)
  • Marine Protected Areas (including marine conservation zones)
